2012-05-31 Faulty Thinking
5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death
by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: for that:

5:13 (For
until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no
law.

Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not
sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him
that was to come.
5:15 But not
as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one
many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by
one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.
5:16 And not
as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to
condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
5:17 For if
by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive
abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one,

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation;
even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto

5:19 For as
by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one
shall many be made righteous.
5:20 Moreover
the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace
did much more abound:
5:21 That as
sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal
life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
God demonstrates
His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for
us. —Romans
5:8
Four people—a pilot, a professor, a pastor, and a hiker—were flying in a
small plane when the engines died.
The pilot said, “There are only three parachutes.
Since this is my plane, I’m taking one of them.”
He put it on and jumped out.
The professor said, “I’m brilliant and the world needs me, so I’m taking a
parachute,” and he jumped out.
Then the pastor told the hiker, “I don’t want to be selfish, so you take
the last parachute.”
The hiker replied, “There are still
two left, so we can each have one.
The professor jumped out with my backpack instead of the parachute!”
Though the professor thought he would land safely, his assurance was based
on faulty thinking.
Some people have an assurance of salvation based on faulty thinking.
They believe that church attendance, baptism, or just being good will gain
them approval from God.
But our thinking is faulty if it isn’t based on what God says in His Word.
God says that “all have sinned” and that we are His enemies.
But through the death and resurrection of His Son, we can be made right
with God (Romans 3:23; 5:8-10).
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of
the glory of God;
By faith in what Christ has done, we
can have peace with God (5:1)
and the assurance of eternal life in heaven.
Do you believe it?
Your eternity is at stake.
Don’t trust faulty thinking but put your faith in Christ.
I am trusting Thee, Lord Jesus—
Trusting only Thee;
Trusting Thee for full salvation,

If we could earn
our salvation, Christ would not have died to provide it.
